What We’re Looking For:

2U is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to lead our global financial planning, forecasting, and strategic analysis functions. As a key partner to the CFO and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you will be responsible for translating 2U’s mission into a rigorous financial roadmap. You will oversee the end-to-end financial planning process, drive operational excellence through data-driven insights, and lead a high-performing team to support 2U’s long-term growth and profitability goals.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a primary financial advisor to the ELT, providing strategic recommendations on resource allocation, capital investment, and business expansion.
  • Lead / Co-Lead the development of the multi-year long-range plan (LRP) and the annual operating plan (AOP) in alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Partner with Senior VPs and GMs across the University Partnership and Alternative Credential segments to optimize margin performance and operational efficiency.

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting cycles, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and accountability across all business units.
  • Drive the evolution of 2U’s financial modeling capabilities, incorporating complex drivers such as student acquisition costs, retention rates, and course margin analysis.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide real-time variance analysis to explain deviations from plan.

Executive Reporting & Communication

  • Lead the preparation of financial materials for the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, and quarterly earnings calls.
  • Synthesize complex financial data into clear, actionable executive narratives that highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations to ensure consistent communication of financial results and guidance to the investment community.

Operational Excellence & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a world-class FP&A organization, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Drive the implementation and optimization of financial planning systems (e.g., Adaptive Insights, Anaplan) to enhance automation and scalability.
  • Continuously refine internal processes to improve the speed and quality of financial decision-making.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (SVP or VP) in a public company or private equity backed company with revenues in excess of $500M.
  • Prior experience in EdTech, SaaS, or Higher Ed is strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level financial modeling, deep understanding of GAAP, and experience managing complex global P&Ls and valuations
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (Workday preferred) and EPM tools (Workday Adaptive Planning).

We will prioritize those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Arlington, VA at least two days a week.
