Project description
The Agro-Investment Corporation (Agro-Invest) in Jamaica has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) Support Specialist. In alignment with Jamaica’s national agricultural development goals, Agro-Invest has embarked on an ambitious initiative to achieve Global Good Agricultural Practices (Global GAP) certification across all its Agro Parks and Production Zones by the year 2035. This initiative aims to position Jamaica as a leader in certified, sustainable agricultural production, facilitating access to safe markets, improving the livelihoods of local farmers, and contributing to national food security and import substitution objectives. The project will focus on targeted interventions within key production zones to ensure efficient implementation and impact.
The PCRV will collaborate with an Agro-Invest team member to complete phase 1 of this project which is planning and baseline assessments. The PCRV will have key responsibilities including managing the certification process, training & capacity building, developing standards of operating procedures (SOPs), and data collection & reporting.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change as a result of partner needs or other external factors. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Jamaica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agribusiness, Food Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Certification or formal training in Global GAP, HACCP, or other food safety standards is a strong advantage.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in agricultural compliance, quality assurance, or farm management.
Experience working in certification processes, regulatory compliance, and auditing procedures within the agricultural sector.
