Project description
The Agro-Investment Corporation (Agro-Invest) in Jamaica has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as an Agriculture Business Development Specialist. Agro-Invest is embarking on a strategic initiative to drive investment-led agricultural development across the island. To achieve this goal, Agro-Invest embarked on a project enhance agribusiness development, with a specific focus on creating and updating investment profiles for key investment areas in agriculture. Agriculture plays a crucial role in Jamaica's economy, providing employment, supporting food security, and contributing to economic growth. A PCRV has been requested to play a pivotal supporting role in enhancing investment opportunities within Jamaica’s agricultural sector by co-developing and promoting comprehensive agribusiness investment profiles.
The PCRV will collaborate with Agro-Invest counterparts to achieve the following: A comprehensive suite of investment profiles for priority crops, available for promotion across various channels; Increased investor interest and participation in Agro Parks and production zones; Enhanced visibility and positioning of Jamaica as a prime agricultural investment hub and Strengthened collaboration between farmers, investors, and government agencies to drive agricultural productivity and economic growth.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change as a result of partner needs or other external factors. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Jamaica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
Required Skills
Education: A Master’s degree in one or more of the following fields:
Agribusiness Management
Agricultural Economics
Business Administration (with a focus on agriculture)
Agronomy or Agricultural Science
Marketing or Investment Promotion
International Development (with an agricultural focus)
Finance or Accounting (related to agricultural enterprises)
Professional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the following areas:
Agribusiness development, investment promotion, or agricultural value chain management.
Financial analysis, feasibility studies, and business planning for agricultural enterprises.
Market research, marketing strategies, and stakeholder engagement within the agricultural sector.
Experience working with government agencies, international development organizations, or private sector agribusinesses.
Experience in agricultural production, supply chain management, or agro-processing is a plus.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis software.
Knowledge of GIS or agricultural mapping tools is an asset.
