Project description
Twisting Creek Ital Farm in Jamaica has request the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Agro-tourism Business Development Specialist. Twisting Creek Ital Farm is a 4.5-acre farm located in Airy Castle, St. Thomas, Jamaica. The farmers acquired the use of this land in 2021 with a vision of creating a farm that uses regenerative and permaculture farming techniques. They have since embarked on a project to create a completely organic farm that will welcome locals and visitors with a hope of exposing them healthier ways of farming. The objectives of this project include assisting the farm to obtain organic certification; developing a comprehensive business plan to address continued farm improvement; development of organic products; farm to table dining outreach/training activities; and developing a model for other farmers to utilize in the establishment and promotion of agri-tourism and organic/sustainable farming.
The PCRV will collaborate with the farm to achieve these objectives through the execution of activities which will include the development and implementation of a business plan strategically partnering with Parish and National Agencies. The PCRV will assess the farm & related activities, review with colleagues the mechanisms & other processes used to determine priorities, and other responsibilities and duties.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change as a result of partner needs or other external factors. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Jamaica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
Required Skills
Master’s Degree in Agricultural Business Development or related field
5 years’ experience in the area of agro-industry or agro-tourism specialization.
Experience working with rural agricultural development
Experience in enterprise development and feasibility studies business modelling, planning and financial planning,
Experience implementing entrepreneurship programmes
Experience in organic agricultural production
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
