Duration

ELIGIBILITY: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a U.S. citizen.
Activity/project background
The partner lyceum is a part of Ukraine’s high school reform program in which each grade 10 class at the lyceum specializes in an in-depth study of a specific subject, such as English, geography, Ukrainian history, computer science, mathematics, or chemistry. This focused approach aims to strengthen students' subject-specific knowledge, equipping them for further education and professional pathways.
While the lyceum offers specialized academic programs, students lack structured opportunities to develop English language skills directly applicable to professional contexts. The lyceum seeks to fill this gap by offering an afternoon English club designed to equip students with essential workplace communication skills and improve their overall confidence in English. Starting September 2025, the weekly online club aims to support 30 high school students in grades 9-10 with practical resources to succeed in academic and business settings. By interacting with a Virtual Service Pilot Participant (VSPP), youth will improve their English communication skills for various professional contexts and interpersonal skills for effective, professional relationships.
Additionally, as the lyceum is close to the Polish border, students frequently seek partnerships with international organizations, making English proficiency even more vital. With the VSPP’s guidance, students will also gain exposure to potential international pathways, career options, and resilience to skillfully navigate opportunities as Ukraine works toward recovery and growth.
The organization has previously collaborated with the Peace Corps. They understand that the role of a VSPP is very different than a two-year Volunteer.

The VSPP will engage in the following tasks, in collaboration with their Host Country Partners:
Online collaboration will generally occur between 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Kyiv time. Specific times will be determined during orientation.
