Project description
The African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (Fonds Africain de Garantie et de Cooperation Economique, or FAGACE, in French) in Benin has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as an English Teacher for Financial/Business Professionals. FAGACE is an international financial institution specializing in the promotion of public and private investments. Its mission is to contribute to the economic and social development of its fourteen African member states individually and collectively, by facilitating the financing and implementation of development projects through loan guarantees. In 2026 five new English-speaking member states will join the institution, so FAGACE has committed to strengthening the English communication skills of the staff as the organization transitions to being a bilingual institution.
In collaboration with FAGACE counterparts, the Peace Corps Response Volunteer will assess the staff members’ current English skill levels, then create a curriculum for English classes for business and management related English classes at different ability levels. The Response Volunteer will teach English classes for staff at novice, intermediate, and high levels during the workweek. The goal of this assignment is developing staff English skills, which will be critical to FAGACE’s future activities.
Required Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field, English teaching certification: TEFL, TESOL, Cambridge, or similar
Experience: 2 years of experience in TEFL/English teaching to university students or adults
Intercultural skills and motivation: Flexibility, strong cross-cultural agility, high tolerance for ambiguity, ability to work independently, resourceful, creative
