Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to teach English to diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for developing and implementing the Government of Benin's foreign policy in the areas of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, economic and cultural diplomacy, decentralized partnership, regional and African integration, representation and protection of the interests of Benin and those of Beninese nationals abroad, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the Republic of Benin. This work often requires English proficiency as well as French, so the MFA has requested a full-time TEFL teacher for a period of 3 ½ months to develop an English language course curriculum and provide three months of intensive English language courses to staff.
The PCRV will collaborate with MFA staff to assess the English skill level of the workforce, to develop curriculum and lesson plans with a specific focus on using English in international and diplomatic environments, and to teach English classes for novice, intermediate, and advanced English students in order to achieve the goal of increasing the English proficiency of the diplomats working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Required Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field, English teaching certification: TEFL, TESOL, Cambridge, or similar
Experience: 2 years of experience in TEFL/English teaching to university students or adults
Intercultural skills and motivation: Flexibility, strong cross-cultural agility, high tolerance for ambiguity, ability to work independently, resourcefulness, creativity
