Project description
The Ministry of Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training - Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU) in Saint Lucia requests the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Math Support Teacher Trainer.
The experience of COVID-19 has created a learning loss in many students and we are still trying to catch up. A recovery plan is in effect and the desired goal is to build the capacity of teachers and school administrators, particularly in the areas of Literacy and Math, where we are falling short. Ultimately, it is expected that primary school students would perform at the appropriate grade level and struggling students would improve by at least one grade level; and a higher level of number fluency and fluidity will be the result from Grade K to 6.
The Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) will be part of a team of Education officers developing a plan to equip teachers and school administrators with the knowledge, skills and strategies needed to teach math. The PCRV will also collaborate in the development of a training plan to address the collection and analysis of student assessment data and progress records and their application in instruction. To the extent possible, the PCRV will assist the Unit in designing professional development workshops for teachers based on the plans developed above. A cohort of at least ten (10) Grade K-4 teachers will be trained across the targeted school districts.
Required Skills
BA/BS in Science/STEM field OR BA/BS in relevant field (e.g. education) with certification or significant relevant experience in STEM
2 or more years of relevant teaching experience.
