Project description
The Youth Development Division of Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Community Development in the Commonwealth of Dominica has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to serve as a Youth Skills Training Support Officer. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief Youth Development Officer, the Youth Skills Training Support Officer provides assistance to youth groups/organizations; provides support services to the Youth Skills Training Program and other non-formal education program of the Division; promotes the concept of volunteerism; offers helping services to youth, ages 16-35; promotes 4-H Clubs and other school-based clubs in primary and secondary schools. One of the Division’s flagship efforts is the Youth Skills Training Program (YSTP) — a second-chance initiative for young men and women who may have struggled in or dropped out of school.
The Response Volunteer will provide crucial support in strengthening and promoting the Youth Skills Training Program by introducing the best practices and enhancing program impact. They will also work closely with Youth Officers to build their capacity in planning, implementing, and evaluating both the Skills Training and Summer Day Programs. The Response Volunteer will contribute significantly to the revitalization of the 4-H Program, which engages youth in both primary and secondary schools through citizenship, personal development, and leadership activities. The 4-H motto, "To Make the Best Better", and its slogan, "Learning By Doing", reflect the values promoted through these clubs. This partnership aims to create lasting, constructive opportunities for youth, improving not only individual lives but also their families and communities. By fostering a culture of participation and capability, this initiative will help ensure that Dominican youth are not just included — but are active contributors to nation building.
